From our offices located
on Ottawa’s “Golden Mile” in the Kanata
North Business Park on March Road in Kanata, we provide
a high level of service and expertise which is affordable
and personalized. We pride ourselves on knowing our
clientele and their individual needs. Our goal is to
provide each client with sensible legal advice which
provides options and an estimate of costs.
OUR
LAWYERS:
W.
John Rick has been practicing law since
1986 and serving the Kanata / West Ottawa community
in the areas of business law, real estate, wills and
estates and environmental law since 1988. After graduating
from the University of New Brunswick (BSc.) in 1979,
John attended McGill University and then the University
of Ottawa, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Law
(LL.B.) degree in 1984. After articling, John practiced
law with several firms, including a large, nationally-recognized
Ottawa firm. In 1993, John commenced the law firm which
is now known as Rick & Associates.
John’s practice
emphasizes providing legal advice to individuals, small
and "starting-up" businesses in the areas
of:

commercial
and residential real estate, including the purchase,
sale, refinancing, leasing and development of real
property;
-
business law, including incorporations,
start-up financing, corporate and financial restructuring,
shareholder / partnership agreement, business contracts,
franchising;
-
wills, powers of attorney and
the administration of estates;
-
environmental law, including
the remediation of polluted properties.
As part of his professional
practice, John regularly lectures about business law
on behalf of a major Canadian Bank to groups of retiring
employees from such organizations as Bell Canada (BCE)
and government departments such as the Department of
National Defence and the Department of Transport.
In addition to his
work as a lawyer, John, his wife Barbara Bergeron, CA
and their family are active members of their community.
John has been:

Vice-President
of the Kanata Business Association;

founding President
and Director of the Kanata Chamber of Commerce;

founding Director
of the World Trade Centre, Ottawa;
-
member
of the Kanata Economic Development Task Force appointed
in 1992 by Kanata Mayor Merle Nicholds to prepare
a strategic plan for economic development in the
City of Kanata.
John has also served
as counsel to the West Carleton Airport Authority managing
the Carp Airport and has been involved in several community
organizations in the Ottawa-Carleton region including
as a Member of the Major Gifts Committee of the Community
Resource Centre, a Kanata-based community support organization,
and also as the Secretary of Operation Go-Home. John
currently serves as counsel and Incident Committee Chairman
of Kanata Soccer.
John was recently
a nominee for a People’s Choice Award (Professional
Advisor) sponsored by the Kanata Chamber of Commerce.
