Christine S. Thomas
Associate Lawyer

Christine was born and raised in the Ottawa area and joined the Rick & Associates team in 2010.  She began her legal career working as a litigation associate at a national law firm in Ottawa, focusing on banking and commercial litigation.  She subsequently joined Nortel Networks and was a member of the Technology Law group focusing on drafting and negotiating technology licenses, OEM agreements and other commercial agreements.  After taking time off to raise a young family, Christine returned to the workforce on a part-time basis.  She worked on her own, providing quality, accessible and cost-effective legal advice to individuals and small businesses relating to the creation and incorporation of their businesses and organizations, as well as drafting wills and estate planning.  Christine has seen both ends of commercial agreements from drafting the agreement to negotiating settlements when deals have gone wrong.  As a result, she is able to pay particular attention to detail while keeping her eye on the larger business and governance issues.

Christine has a passion for not-for-profit and charity law.  She has acted for clients ranging from local amateur sports associations, religious organizations and special interest groups to national health organizations in setting up their organizations, establishing good governance practices, obtaining charitable registration status, assisting with filing requirements and assisting charities in working with CRA in completing amalgamations and mergers of registered charities. 

Christine’s second career is acting as chauffeur to her three young children who participate in several sports and activities in and around Kanata and West Carleton.  She is an active volunteer with Kanata Soccer, Community Bible Church in Stittsville and is the Nancy Greene Coordinator for the Vorlage Ski Racing Club in Wakefield, Quebec.
